A Treasure to Enjoy

A Treasure to Enjoy
To read a book can be to travel to a completely different world where one can have adventures, fall in love, or even become a hero. Reading is a privilege that not every man, woman, and child has, unfortunately.
Before I was in second grade, I almost never read. And when I did, it was because either my parents or my teachers forced me too. I honestly didn't care, or really like to read. My whole family was worried that I would never get interested in reading, or that I would have huge difficulties reading in school.
They were worried for no reason however, because once I reached 2nd grade, everything about how I viewed reading changed. My teacher at the time, Mrs. Meyers told me, “Reading is something to be treasured. Whats the book you treasure most?” and when I told her I didn't have one because I disliked reading, she gave me a list of books to read.
I decided to give these books a try, and lo and behold, I loved them! That list began my awesome love affair with books. As I fell in love with books, my reading skills grew and grew. It became near impossible for anyone to get my head out of my books.
If Mrs. Meyers had never given me that list and gotten me interested in reading, who knows how different my life would be. My whole personality, or how smart I am today could be completely different. I could have other hobbies, be interested in other things, or even just be a totally different person. I know for sure though, it wouldn't be as fun if I didn't read as much as I do now.
A book is a portal to a whole new world, and I am so glad that I can travel through these ‘portals’ to a place where I can be liberated from my everyday life. Reading isn't something to do to just learn more things. It’s also a way to escape reality and become a princess, a hero, or even a villain.
